What to Expect

Here’s what to expect when using the Drawing from the Collection stations. Find out more about Accessibility at QAGOMA and planning your visit.

Materials

  • The Drawing from the Collection drop-in stations provide free A3 paper, graphite pencils and A3 drawing boards for use throughout the Queensland Art Gallery. Please return all materials to their station after use.
  • If you would like to bring your own drawing materials, you are welcome to sketch with graphite pencils and handheld sketchbooks. Please note, as per QAGOMA Conditions of Entry, only graphite pencils can be brought into the Gallery.
  • No erasers or sharpeners are provided at the stations.

Seating

  • Portable stools without backs are available at the Gallery 5 Drawing from the Collection station. Please return them after use.
  • There is limited existing seating throughout the Gallery spaces available.

Participation and content

  • The Drawing from the Collection stations are available during the Queensland Art Gallery’s standard opening hours: 10.00am – 5.00pm daily. Please note: The Gallery opens from 12 noon on Anzac Day and is closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
  • This is a self-guided activity suitable for all ages and skill levels.
  • Using the drawing materials provided, you are invited to take inspiration from your surroundings to create your own unique response. You might choose to sketch a detail from your favourite artwork, the Gallery’s architecture or the person you are visiting with.

Sensory aspects

  • The Gallery air conditioning is set to 21°C to conserve the artworks.
  • Lighting levels vary throughout the Gallery, with some areas brightly lit and others more dimly lit. Visitors sensitive to bright light may wish to wear a cap or sunglasses.
  • Certain artworks feature soundtracks or soundscapes. If you are sensitive to sound, you may bring noise-cancelling headphones.
