About
Widely considered to be one of the most influential Japanese moving-image artists of his generation, Japanese filmmaker Makino Takashi creates film work that engulfs the senses. His approach to cinema is one that extends the boundaries of contemporary practices. The work, which often draws on collaboration with musicians such as Grouper and Jim O Rourke (Sonic Youth) uses densely layered image superimposition inspired by collage techniques. This Live Music & Film event features a 3D film component and will combine Makino Takashi’s 16mm, digital film projections and sonic compositions to craft a cosmic, almost revelatory cinematic experience.
This multifaceted, interdisciplinary performance is a sensorially immersive event in three parts. It opens with Makino Takashi’s 2022 video work Anti-cosmos (16 min), followed by 3D film Space Noise (26 min) with live score performed by Makino Takashi and then closes with Makino Takashi’s live music performance to his new film work Imagination 2025 (34 mins).
This special event features a 3D component; glasses will be issued as you enter the cinema. Some sections of this event contain flickering or flashing lights that may affect those with photosensitive epilepsy.
