When the painfully shy, yet incredibly wealthy heir-to-a-business-empire, Chen Li (Kenny Bee) invites his friend Lolanto (Pak-Cheung Chan) to Hawaii to help him talk to girls, their embarrassing efforts earn them the bemused rejection of Kitty (Maggie Cheung) and May (Cherie Chung). Upon their return to Hong Kong, Chen is called to investigate embezzlement in his father’s business, where Kitty and May just so happen to work as secretaries. When Chen and Lolanto go undercover to root out the malfeasance, a comedy of errors ensues, snowballing into a bonkers finale involving a high-stakes snooker match, electric chairs and a shot at true love.
After finding some local fame as a model, pageant queen and television presenter, Maggie Cheung made her big screen debut in Prince Charming, a delightful romp from prolific filmmaker Wong Jing. An immediately charismatic screen presence, Cheung shines alongside several other rising stars of 1980s Hong Kong cinema this screwball comedy confection.
