About
Join multidisciplinary artist Callum McGrath in conversation with Ellie Buttrose, Curator, Contemporary Australian Art, QAGOMA as they discuss McGrath’s curated film program, ‘In Queer Time’.
Working across sculpture, installation and time-based media, Callum McGrath’s creative practice is concerned with the erosion of time and cultural memory. Drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of queer cinema, McGrath fractures conventional systems of representation to arrive at revised queer experiences of the past.
The accompanying film program ‘In Queer Time’ challenges conventional perceptions of time through cinematic queer utopian visions of the future. Told through the films of renowned LGBTQIA+ directors including Lizzie Borden, Todd Haynes, Wu Tsang and Leilah Weinraub, ‘In Queer Time’ uses the lens of queerness to present alternative experiences of love, family and collective action.
