Set 1960s Hong Kong, Wong Kar-Wai’s second feature Days of Being Wild follows Yuddy (Leslie Cheung) and the trail of seduction and betrayal he leaves behind as he seeks answers about his past. Yuddy breaks the heart of sports club attendant Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung), leaving her for cabaret dancer Mimi (Carina Lau). In turn, Li-Zhen forms an attachment to the policeman Tide (Andy Lau), who dreams of being a sailor, while Yuddy’s childhood friend Zeb (Jacky Cheung) yearns for Mimi. Unrequited love, both romantic and filial, permeates this exquisitely shot film, with a narrative that plays out in Wong's dreamlike elliptical style. Featuring a magnetic performance from Cheung, and filled with longing and delicate emotional nuance, the film begins a loose trilogy between the star and Wong, followed by In the Mood for Love 2000, and 2046 2004.
